Ecuador extended their unbeaten streak to 15 matches with a win over New Zealand in New Jersey, breaking through after a tense goalless first half in which New Zealand’s disciplined defensive shape caused real frustration. Despite the All Whites creating the game’s first big chance through Eli Just, Ecuador dominated possession and eventually found the opener five minutes after the restart with Nilson Angulo tapping in after neat interplay from John Yeboah and Gonzalo Plata. New Zealand threatened briefly through Ben Old but Ecuador’s pressure told again late on when Leonardo Campana capitalised on a misplaced pass to seal the result in the 83rd minute.
