New Zealand secured their place at a seventh FIFA Women’s World Cup™ after a narrow victory over Papua New Guinea in the Oceania Qualifiers final. Following a scoreless first half New Zealand were frustrated by the woodwork, VAR overturned decisions and clinical goalkeeping from Betty Sam, the deadlock was finally broken early in the second half when Katie Kitching powered home a header from a Gabbie Rennie cross. While the New Zealand side remained dominant to cap off a qualifying campaign, Papua New Guinea showed great resilience and move forward to the inter-confederation playoffs in hopes of still reaching the tournament.
