Despite falling short of the ultimate prize, both sides have had successful tournaments culminating in the opportunity to challenge for third place. Colombia struggled slightly in the Group Stage, but hit their stride in the knockouts with wins over South Africa and more importantly a 5-goal thriller win against Spain, before ultimately losing to Argentina. France also didn't have the best early start, but was then able to beat Japan, one of the favourites, with a last second penalty scored by their top scorer Lucas Michal. They then battled for 120 minutes on even terms with Morocco before a penalty shoot-out sealed their fate.
