Description
Samoa concluded their qualifying campaign with a narrow victory over the Solomon Islands in an entertaining match where only pride was on the line as both teams were already eliminated from semi-final contention. Malia Jessop opened the scoring for Samoa late in the first half with a brilliant left-footed strike but the home side deservedly equalized in the 63rd minute through Ileen Pegi. However, the parity was short-livedas an unfortunate own goal by Solomon Islands defender Edith Nari restored Samoa's lead just 15 minutes later. Despite late pressure and rattling the crossbar in search of another equalizer, the Solomon Islands couldn't break through, allowing Samoa's defence to hold on and sign off with all three points.
