Waikato Rapids launched their campaign with an emphatic victory over fellow debutants Gulf Komara, showcasing superior possession, pressure, and organization. Waikato Rapids took an early lead through Maxwell Erickson and doubled it before the break via Hemi Innes. Although Gulf Komara’s captain Troy Dobbin briefly pulled one back, the New Zealand side's quality shone through in the second half where they netted six more goals to seal a commanding win. Gulf Komara keeper Willie Gerega made several saves but the team ultimately struggled to retain possession against Waikato Rapid's sustained attacking depth.
