Ali Al Habsi came from humble beginnings and had humble ambitions in a country where professional football was nonexistent. But life had other plans. A chance meeting with an English coach opened an alternative path and he was prepared to walk it, never imaging where it would lead. Despite the stunning rise of our hero, he remained grounded by the humility he learned in his youth, and the love of his roots. Now, at the end of his career, he looks back on the unlikely journey that took him from his native farm in Oman to the stadiums of England and reflects on the influences that guided him there.
