Bula FC and South Melbourne FC were forced to settle for a share of the spoils following an entertaining stalemate. South Melbourne capitalized on their early dominance when Andrew Mesourouni swept home a long throw to open the scoring but their failure to convert further pressure, including a Luka Coveny header against the crossbar. Bula FC clawed their way back into the contest just before the break through Christopher Wasasala, who dispossessed South Melbourne’s captain Marco Jankovic to slide in the equalizer against the run of play. Despite a frantic second half where Bula FC’s substitute Setareki Hughes went agonizingly close to snatching a winner, neither side could find a decisive breakthrough in the testing heat.
